Johnson Security News and Events
UK’s First Natural Gas Cash-in-Transit Vehicles
Johnson Security provide end-to-end cash management solutions to UK councils. Our systems are predominantly used in the collection of cash from car parks and vending machines as well as rent and rates, and additionally for the secure transport of valuable documents.
In early 2010 Johnson Security was successfully awarded a contract to produce two armoured vehicles for Camden Council. These vehicles were based on Mercedes Sprinter 316 NGT, supplied by Rygor Commercials. This new Sprinter uses Natural Gas as fuel, resulting in lower emissions and harmful pollutants.
Johnson Security is the first specialist vehicle converter in the UK to use this environmentally friendly version of the Sprinter. During the build process we were tasked with converting these vehicles for use in cash-in-transit operations, the conversion being more difficult than that of a standard Diesel Sprinter.
There were specific challenges related to this conversion, one notable case being the position of the three NGT tanks.
During 2009 Camden Council carried out trials of Biomethane and Natural Gas vehicles as part of their street cleaning vehicle fleet. The success of this trial has accelerated Camden Councils efforts to introduce hybrid vehicles into their entire fleet. As a result, they are now setting an example for all UK councils with a ‘Green’ fleet of over 260 vehicles, including electric, hybrid, Biomethane and LPG vehicles.
Camden has installed a bio-methane refueling station at one of its key transport deports where the fuel is being produced from landfill gas (methane), released during the decomposition of organic waste. The landfill gas is upgraded to liquid bio-methane, which can be used in vehicles run on compressed or liquid natural gas.
This was an exciting opportunity for Johnson Security, providing us the chance to apply our 43 years of experience and skill in secure vehicle conversions to a new generation of vehicles, and we look forward to undertaking similar work in the near future.

In early October Johnson Security travelled to Germany to exhibit at Security Essen 2010, one of the worlds leading security exhibitions. Four members of JSL staff were joined by a colleague from our German sister company, ambulance builders KFB-Extramobile, as well as a colleague from our parent company, FDJI based in Beijing. The team worked together to help promote Johnson Security and our products, and to continue our expansion into new markets.

Our stand featured a variety of building and vehicle products such as Rotary Transfer Hatches, Drop Safes and Lockers, as well as a demonstrator of our C2:10 Ballistic Cash-in-Transit Body, which travel from China to be on display at the show.
The C2:10 is a new concept in the CIT industry and proved extremely popular amongst visitor and exhibitors alike.
Over the course of the 4-day show we met with existing customers to discuss new opportunities, and also came away with a variety of exciting new leads from throughout the global security industry. The show was a great success for Johnsons and we look forward to returning in the future.

Firebuy Framework
Johnson Security Ltd are pleased to announce our inclusion on the Firebuy framework agreement for Special Vehicle Capability, Products and Services.
Firebuy acts as a central procurement body on behalf of the English Fire and Rescue Authorities, as well as other bodies. The framework agreement is divided into three lots, and JSL have been included in Lot 2 (bodywork and top hampers) and Lot 3 (conversions, fitting out and finishing, refurbishment and/or upgrade).
This marks a significant step in Johnson’s strategy to break into new markets and broaden our product offering in the vehicle conversion market. Our success in this Firebuy framework is a reflection of the hard work that has been going on in the last year, a process that has been aided by a number of new members of staff and senior management, brought in for their experience in the wider vehicle conversion market.
This framework agreement runs for a period of four years, and in this time we will work to build on this achievement by competing for contracts through the framework agreement, and will look to add to the range of conversions we already offer to this market, such as the Mercedes Atego based Hose Layer Units that are currently in production at our Gloucestershire factory....
